James B. Vogts

James VogtsJames Vogts is a partner at Swanson, Martin & Bell LLP in Chicago, Illinois. For over three decades, he has represented firearm manufacturers and retail dealers, defending them in nearly all 50 states in product liability, public nuisance and negligent sales and marketing cases. He has substantial experience in cases involving interpretation and application of the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act in federal and state courts. Mr. Vogts has recently defended the on-line seller of ammunition allegedly used in the Aurora, Colorado theatre mass shooting, a well-known internet site permitting private party advertisements for firearm sales in a high-profile murder case, and he has prosecuted Second Amendment challenges to municipal "assault weapons" ordinances. He currently represents the manufacturer of the firearm used in the Sandy Hook school shooting in a case brought by families of the shooting victims.

Mr. Vogts is admitted to practice in Illinois, the United States Supreme Court, the United States District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern District of Wisconsin and District of Colorado, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal, District of Columbia, First, Second, Fifth, Seventh, Ninth and Tenth Circuits.
